Deadly Bomb Blast Hits Shi'ite Rally In Pakistan

Shi'ite men gather at the site of the attack in Quetta.

A deadly bomb blast has hit a Shi'ite rally in Pakistan's southwestern city of Quetta.

Police said at least 40 people were killed and many more were injured in the explosion.

The blast was reportedly caused by a suicide bomber who detonated his explosives as thousands of Shi'ite Muslims rallied to mark Quds Day, an international celebration held on the last Friday of Ramadan by some Muslims to show solidarity with the Palestinians and opposition to Israel's control of Jerusalem.

The attack today came two days after suicide bombings of a Shi'ite rally killed some 35 people and wounded around 300 in the eastern city of Lahore.
