EU foreign affairs chief Catherine Ashton says the EU is launching talks with Georgia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan on association agreements.
Ashton is in Georgia today for talks. She said the association agreement with the EU would contribute to Georgia's democratic development, long-term stability, and prosperity.
EU-Azerbaijan talks are due to start on July 16 in Baku, while negotiations between the EU and Armenia are planned for July 19 in Yerevan.
The EU is already negotiating similar deals with Ukraine and Moldova. The association agreement framework offers “economic integration and political association,” which could eventually lead to membership in the bloc if it opts for another round of enlargement.
