Four Italian Soldiers Killed In Afghanistan

Four Italian soldiers have been killed and a fifth seriously injured in Afghanistan when a roadside bomb struck their vehicle today in the southwestern province of Farah.

A spokesman for Italy's Defense Ministry in Rome, General Massimo Fogari, said the soldiers were ambushed as they returned from a mission in the Gulistan Valley.

Earlier today, NATO announced in Kabul that four alliance soldiers had been killed in the west of the country.

It was not immediately clear if the NATO statement, which provided no further details, referred to the Italian soldiers.
