Hurricane Moves Beyond Haiti, Leaving Six Dead

A powerful hurricane that had threatened to wreck havoc in Haiti has diminished in force and moved on beyond the Caribbean nation, leaving six dead.

The hurricane, dubbed Tomas, appears to have spared the hundreds of thousands of Haitians who continue to live in flimsy tent camps after the devastating earthquake there in January.

The hurricane has now moved north of Haiti toward the Turks and Caicos Islands.
