Jordanian security officials say a Grad-type rocket smashed into a street of the Jordanian port city of Aqaba today, injuring five people.
Jordan's Interior Ministry says an investigation shows the rocket was launched from Egypt's Sinai Desert as part of a salvo from a truck-mounted multiple-rocket launcher.
Israeli officials say five rockets from the barrage also landed in and around the Israeli port city of Eilat -- about 10 kilometers from Aqaba. There were no immediate reports of injuries in Eilat.
Israeli officials say they also think the salvo was fired from the Egyptian Sinai -- an area where Islamist militants have operated in the past.
But an Egyptian security official denied the rockets could have been fired from Egyptian territory, saying it would not be possible amid a heavy security presence -- and because of the logistics and equipment needed to conduct such an attack.
Earlier, Israel warned Gaza's Hamas rulers after a weekend of rocket attacks from the Palestinian territory on Israeli communities that Israeli forces would retaliate for further attacks.
Israel during the weekend carried out a series of air strikes on militant targets in Gaza -- including one that killed a senior commander of the military wing of Hamas.
