A judge in the United States has sentenced a Jordanian citizen to 24 years in U.S. prison for attempting to blow up a skyscraper in the Texas city of Dallas.
Hosam Smadi, 20, had pleaded guilty in May to one count of attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction.
He could have faced life in prison if he had been convicted without the plea agreement.
Smadi had been arrested in 2009 after prosecutors said he tried to detonate a fake car bomb that had been set up by undercover FBI agents.
Before his sentencing on October 19, Smadi told the court he was "ashamed" of his actions.
He also renounced the Al-Qaeda terror network, calling its leader Osama Bin Laden "a bad man."
