MOSCOW -- Former Chechen parliamentary deputy Isa Yamadayev claims he was attacked by a would-be killer in the Russian capital on July 28, RFE/RL's North Caucasus Services report.

Police officials in Moscow initially denied Yamadayev's claims but later confirmed that a man had been apprehended and charged with attempted murder.

Yamadayev's family is said to have run afoul of Ramzan Kadyrov, Chechnya's Moscow-backed president, after having supported Kadyrov's father and predecessor as Chechen leader, Akhmad Kadyrov.

Two of Yamadayev's five brothers have been murdered in the past 12 months.

Former State Duma Deputy Ruslan Yamadayev was shot dead in Moscow in September 2008.

Sulim Yamadayev, a former commander of the Russian Defense Ministry's Vostok battalion, was killed by hired assassins in Dubai in March.
