Kazakh Women Protest With Noodles Hanging From Ears

There's a phrase in Kazakh, “hanging noodles in someone’s ears,” which means to deceive, or to cheat.

Well, groups of opposition activists from Taldy-Korgan, in south-east Kazakhstan, have taken the phrase literally. (More from our Kazakh Service.)

Recently, a group of women have been appearing in front of a local administration building, with noodles hanging from their ears, to protest that local officials are not complying with promises to publish information on their incomes.
