Moscow's Fire Chief Dies In Blaze

Local reports say the chief of Moscow's fire department was killed while evacuating people from a burning building in the Russian capital.

ITAR-TASS reports that Yevgeny Chernyshov was thought to have died when part of the roof of the structure, a Moscow business center, collapsed.

Russia's international English-language broadcaster Russia Today quoted the agency saying he had radioed to say he was running low on oxygen and trying to find a way out of the building.

Some 400 firefighters were called in to put out the large fire in the northern part of the city. Reports said six people had been rescued and did not mention other casualties.

An investigation has been launched to determine what caused the blaze.
