The U.S. Transportation Security Administration says a passenger has been taken into custody following what's being described as a disturbance on board a United Airlines passenger flight from Washington to the city of Denver.
Officials, however, say the incident does not appear to have been a serious security threat.
U.S. officials say the suspect, who is described as apparently a Qatari diplomat, may have been trying to smoke a cigarette in an airplane bathroom and raised suspicions he was trying to detonate a shoe bomb.
Reports say no explosives have been found on board the plane.
The flight, which was carrying 157 passengers and six crew members, landed safely in Denver on the evening of April 7.
Reports say a U.S. air marshal on board the plane apparently restrained the suspect. Officials said the scare led to U.S. F-16 fighter jets being scrambled to intercept the plane and escort it to Denver.
