Queen Of England Brings Peace Message At UN

Queen Elizabeth II places a wreath at Ground Zero in New York City on July 6 to honor 9/11 victims.

Queen Elizabeth II has appealed for world unity and peace in an address to the United Nations General Assembly.

The British monarch told General Assembly delegates that the most stringent challenges that the world body faces in the 21st century are terrorism and climate change.

"One such [challenge] is the struggle against terrorism," Queen Elizabeth said. "Another challenge is climate change, where careful account must be taken of the risks faced by smaller or vulnerable nations."

The 84-year-old British queen last visited the United Nations in 1957.

The queen also visited the World Trade Center site, laying a wreath in tribute to the thousands who died in the September 11, 2001 terror attack, including 67 Britons.
