Iraqi officials say at least seven civilians and two Iraqi soldiers were killed today during a joint U.S.-Iraqi raid in the city of Fallujah.
Major General Baha Hussein al-Karkhi, police chief for Anbar Province, said the raid was conducted on "a terrorist's house" and that "clashes took place when the terrorists fired at the troops. Civilians were caught in the crossfire. Seven were killed and four wounded... two Iraqi soldiers were also killed."
A U.S. military spokesman, Army Major Bryan Woods, confirmed reports of at least one fatality in an incident and said an investigation would be started.
Meanwhile, Iraqi police say nine Iraqi soldiers were killed today when a roadside bomb tore through a bus near the northern city of Mosul.
Insurgents have launched steady attacks on Iraqi police and troops in recent weeks, while the U.S. military formally ended combat operations in August.
