Afghan police say the attackers detonated their explosives-filled vests at the entrance of a guest house in the Taimani neighborhood of the capital.
The guest house was used by foreigners.
Police say the explosives were set off when the attackers were stopped by the guard.
The authorities are investigating reports that there may have been two attackers wearing explosives-laden vests.
But residents of the neighborhood told correspondents they only heard one explosion.
