Wild Pig Terrorizes Tajik Village

An attack by a wild boar in Tajikistan's mountainous Tajikabad district has injured at least five people, including a young man who is in serious condition after intervening to protect children from the rampaging beast.

Witnesses told us the boar strolled through the village of Nushor before attacking four children. When 18-year-old Aliakbar Yunusov confronted the animal to protect the youngsters, he was severely wounded and left unconscious.

Boars are a growing nuisance in Tajikistan, with their numbers rising and one death recorded last year when a singular (that's what a group of boars is called) attacked a farmer.

The animals apparently get free rein in the country, where hunting them is an especially unattractive endeavor since a majority of Tajiks are Muslim and thus regard swine as unclean.
