Turkmen President On First-Ever State Visit To Korea

ASHGABAT (RFE/RL) -- Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov has arrived in Seoul for the first-ever visit by a Turkmen leader to South Korea.

RFE/RL's Turkmen Service reports that energy issues will be discussed during Berdymukhammedov's three-day state visit, which is aimed at improving economic cooperation.

Berdymukhammedov is the first Turkmen president to visit South Korea since diplomaic relations were established in 1992.

Berdymukhammedov's visit was initially planned for September but was postponed due to a bloody gunbattle in the capital, Ashgabat, in which several people were killed.
