Emergency officials have said at least eight people were killed in southern Russia after new forest fires broke out.

The wildfires injured more than a dozen people as some 500 buildings went up in flames in the Volgograd and Saratov regions.

More than 50 people died and thousands were left homeless in Russia this summer as much of the country was affected by fires due to heat and dry conditions.
