UN Summit Ends With Call To Action Beyond Rhetoric

Diplomats from the the Swedish delegation walked out as Iranian President Mahmud Ahmadinejad addressed the 65th session of the UN General Assembly in New York on September 23.

The UN General Assembly's annual high-level gathering has ended with its new Swiss president urging world leaders "to make true breakthroughs" by moving beyond their soaring rhetoric to new ways of thinking.

General Assembly President Joseph Deiss of Switzerland asked at the end of the session whether leaders had "really taken the time to speak to one another" and search for solutions and reconciliation.

The UN General Assembly wrapped up on September 29 after two weeks of meetings with cash-strapped states pledging to do more with less.
