WASHINGTON -- A Belarusian rights activists says her compatriots will be able to view her new documentary about critics of President Alyaksandr Lukashenka who disappeared 15 years ago.
"Even if we don't hold an open screening in Belarus, in due time it will simply be posted on the Internet," Raisa Mikhailovskaya said December 17 in Washington at the inaugural screening of "The Gang."
Financed by The German Marshall Fund, the film features interviews with former Belarusian officials and examines law enforcement records concerning the disappearances of Yury Zaharanka, Viktar Hanchar, Anatol Krasouski, and Dzmitry Zavadzski in 1999 and 2000.
The four men are presumed dead, and their relatives believe Belarusian secret services are responsible for their abductions.
The film aims to "once again remind people of what happened in Belarus 15 years ago," Mikhailovskaya said.
