Afghan police have arrested a cleric for allegedly raping a 10-year-old schoolgirl on the second day of the holy month of Ramadan.
Police said on July 23 that Mawlavi Sayed Ahmad was arrested in the northern Samangan province on July 21 after police caught him in the act of sexually assaulting the girl.
Authorities said the girl was now receiving treatment at a hospital.
Local authorities said the girl regularly went to the mullah's house for lessons in reading and writing.
