Four Afghans Sentenced To Death For Mob Killing

An court in the Afghan capital, Kabul, sentenced four men to death on May 6 for participating in the mob killing of a young woman in the capital in March. The judge sentenced eight other defendants to prison terms of 16 years for their roles in the attack. Eighteen defendants were found not guilty due to lack of evidence, and 19 police officers accused of failing to intervene in the killing are still awaiting a verdict. The victim, named Farkhunda, was beaten to death after men spread a rumor that she had burned a copy of the Koran. (RFE/RL's Radio Free Afghanistan)
