Afghan Civilians Protest Against NATO-Led Raid

Dozens of protesters have taken to the streets in the capital of the Afghan province of Parwan, north of Kabul, to complain about an operation by foreign forces.

An ammunition cache was destroyed in Charikar's Bayaan district on the night of June 28-29, causing no casualties.

The NATO mission in Afghanistan said the operation was conducted by U.S. forces.

Provincial police chief General Mohammad Zaman Mamoozai said Afghan also troops took part in the operation, which involved ground and air forces.

Protesters set tires on fire in the main market and chanted anti-American slogans. They said the munitions should have been relocated away from residential areas before being destroyed.

President Ashraf Ghani and Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah ordered an investigation into the operation.
