Four Soldiers Killed In Southern Afghanistan

Map - Afghanistan

The U.S.-led international military coalition says four of its service members were killed in southern Afghanistan.

A military official said all were Americans killed by an improvised explosive device, but the official was not authorized to speak publicly and made the comment on condition of anonymity.

NATO said in a statement the four were killed on October 6 during a partnered operation in the south but did not provide further details or the service members' nationalities.

Improvised explosive devices, or IEDs, have become one of the top killers of Afghan and foreign soldiers, as well as civilians.
