Local government spokesman Dawkhan Menapal said four Afghan National Army soldiers were also injured in the attack in the Maywand district of Kandahar Province on May 11.

The Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Separately, NATO said on May 11 that one of its service members died as a result of a non-battle-related injury in northern Afghanistan.
