Taliban Kills Two Hostages In Afghanistan's North

Officials in Afghanistan's northern province of Kunduz say Taliban militants have killed two of the hostages abducted from a bus convoy this week.

Kunduz police spokesman Hejratullah Akbari said on June 2 that the bodies of the two hostages had been found along a road on June 1.

According to Akbari, security forces have launched an operation to rescue the remaining eight hostages.

On May 31, Taliban militants killed at least 13 people and took several people hostage after ambushing several buses on a highway in Kunduz.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack, saying they were targeting security officials.

Taliban forces regularly stop passenger vehicles to search for members of the Afghan government, security forces, and international organizations, and the number of such incidents appears to be growing.
