Up To 27 Iraqi Policemen Killed In Checkpoint Attacks

Reports from Iraq say up to 27 police have been killed in a wave of attacks in Haditha, in the western province of Anbar.

Police say it appears the coordinated attacks in the predawn hours on March 5 were carried out by Al-Qaeda militants.

Police are quoted as saying gunmen, some wearing military-style uniforms, attacked police checkpoints, security posts, and raided the homes of at least two officers.

At least one attacker was reported killed in a gunfight.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Owaid Khalaf is quoted as saying more than 50 gunmen were believed to have been involved in the coordinated attacks.
