Myanmar pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi says the southeast Asian country's upcoming election cannot be considered truly free and fair because of many irregularities in the run up to the vote.
However, the Nobel Peace Prize laureate said at a press conference in Yangon that she still intends to press forward with her campaign for a parliament seat.
The April 1 by-election is the first since Myanmar's military-backed civilian government assumed power one year ago after decades of outright military rule.
It marks the first time that Suu Kyi -- who spent most of the past 22 years in jail or under house arrest -- is pursuing election to parliament.
Her National League for Democracy won a landslide victory in 1990 but was blocked by the military from taking office.
