Muslim Dignitaries Pay Respects At Auschwitz

Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski (R) led a procession of leaders to Auschwitz last month.

Around 100 Jewish, Christian, and Muslim leaders from the Middle East, Africa, and Europe today paid tribute to Holocaust victims at the former Nazi death camp of Auschwitz-Birkenau in Oswiecim, Poland.

The visit, which follows last week's commemoration of the 66th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, was part of an effort to raise awareness about the Holocaust and to fight racism and intolerance.

Auschwitz-Birkenau has become an enduring symbol of the Holocaust, Nazi Germany's wartime campaign of genocide against Europe's Jews. Around a million Jews were murdered at the site, along with tens of thousands of others, including Poles, Roma, and Soviet prisoners of war.
