An alleged mastermind of the 2002 bombing on the Indonesian island of Bali that killed 202 people has gone on trial in the Indonesian capital, Jakarta.
Umar Patek was arrested in January 2011 in Abbottabad in Pakistan, the same town where Al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden was killed by U.S. forces last year.
He is facing charges including premeditated murder, bomb-making, and illegal firearms possession.
He is believed to be a member of the Al-Qaeda–linked Southeast Asian terror group Jemaah Islamiah.
The trial of Patek is expected to last more than four months, with prosecutors presenting evidence from up to 86 witnesses.
Patek could face the death penalty if convicted.
