UNITED NATIONS -- UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has said the convoy of the head of the UN monitoring mission in Syria, Babacar Gaye, was attacked on July 29 by government tanks.
Speaking at a press conference at the UN headquarters in New York on July 30, Ban said there were no injuries.
According to Ban, it was the second time Gaye's convoy had been targeted.
Ban added that it was fortunate there were no casualties in more than 12 attacks targeting UN convoys.
Gaye replaced Robert Mood as the head of the monitoring mission earlier this month.
The mandate of the UN mission in Syria was extended on July 20 for an additional 30 days, which the U.S. has pledged will be a "final" extension.
Also on July 30, Ban Ki-moon urged the Syrian government to halt its violent crackdown on dissidents and rebels.
