The trial of radical Indonesian cleric Abu Bakir Bashir, the alleged leader of the banned Islamic militant group Jemaah Islamiah, has resumed today in Jakarta.
The prosecution says that Bashir planned or mobilized others to illegally use firearms, ammunition, or explosives in order to commit terrorism. He is also accused of financing an Islamic militant training camp in western Aceh province.
The maximum penalty for such crimes is death.
Bashir has already been tried twice on terrorism-related charges but has only been convicted on lesser charges, including violating immigration laws. This latest trial started last week but was adjourned due to a technicality.
