Mother Of Belarusian Executed For Terrorism Wants Son's Body

Lyubou Kavalyova, Uladzislau Kavalyou's mother,

The mother of a young Belarusian man convicted for the April 2011 Minsk subway bombing and later executed for terrorism is seeking to have the authorities hand over her son's body.

Lyubou Kavalyova told a press conference in Minsk on March 13 that she hoped the Belarusian authorities would release the body of her son as she marks the first anniversary of his execution.

Her son Uladzislau Kavalyou and his friend Dzmitry Kanavalau, both born in 1986, were convicted for the Minsk subway station that killed 15 people and wounded some 300 others-- and two earlier bombings.

They were executed with a shot to the head sometime in mid-March 2012.

Some independent investigators, including investigators from Russia, have expressed serious doubts about evidence used to convict the two men.
