The Minsk City Court on July 24 sentenced physicist Yury Adamau to three years in prison on a charge of financially supporting "extremist groups" amid an ongoing crackdown on dissent. The charge stemmed from Adamau's contribution of $1,590 to the funds assisting repressed Belarusian activists and journalists -- BySol and ByHelp. The Belarusian authorities have declared the two groups "extremists." Adamau, who was arrested in March, is the founder of the private scientific publishing house Pamylka.
