Bosnia Arrests Three War Crimes Suspects

Authorities in Bosnia-Herzegovina have arrested three Muslim Bosnians suspected of having committed war crimes against Bosnian Serb civilians during the 1992-95 war.

Prosecutors say Esef Huric, an unnamed police official, and lawyer Ibro Merkez were arrested on November 17.

They are suspected of involvement in the detention of about 100 Serbs from the eastern town of Gorazde.

The statement said the civilian detainees, including women and children, were held for several months in "inhumane conditions."

In a separate case, police arrested Ahmet Sejdic under suspicion of illegal imprisonment, expulsion, torture, and inhumane treatment of dozens of Serb civilians and prisoners of war.

The three suspects were serving as police and army commanders at the time the alleged war crimes took place in 1992 and 1993.
