The Muslim mayor of Srebrenica -- the Bosnia town that was the site of Europe’s worst massacre since World War II -- has accused Bosnian Serb authorities of using the pretext of investigating Islamic extremists to harass Muslims who have returned to the town since the country’s 1992-95 war.
Camil Durakovic, who is a Muslim Bosniak, said on May 7 that Serb police have been storming the homes of returnees and arresting people without explanation.
He called the police activity a "form of repression."
Meanwhile, Bosnian Serb police said on May 7 that they are holding 11 people on suspicion of preparing terrorist acts.
The police operation comes after a Muslim gunman killed one police officer and wounded two others when he stormed into a police station in northeastern Bosnia last week.
Investigators think the 24-year-old gunman was linked to Islamic extremists.
