Bosnia Seals Historic World Cup Berth

Supporters of the Bosnian national football team celebrate World Cup qualification.

Bosnia-Herzegovina has qualified for its first World Cup on a final night of qualifiers across Europe. Vedad Ibisevic scored in the second half to secure a 1-0 away victory over Lithuania October 15 and top spot in Group G.

The result sparked wild celebrations in the central square of Sarajevo and elsewhere in the country, which gained independence 21 years ago.

Elsewhere, Russia also booked its place in Brazil next year after a 1-1 tie away to Azerbaijan.

Ukraine had to settle for a place in the playoffs despite beating San Marino 8-0. That's because England's 2-0 victory over Poland means England top Group H.

Also through to the playoffs for one of the final four European spots at Brazil 2014 are Croatia and Romania, along with Portugal, France, Greece, Sweden, and surprise package Iceland.
