Two Kazakh students with possible links to the suspected Boston Marathon bombers have been detained in that city for allegedly violating U.S. immigration regulations.
Kazakhstan's Foreign Ministry officials said on April 22 that the two students were detained after investigations were launched into their activities.
Those were said to include suspected contacts with 26-year-old Tamerlan Tsarnaev, who died in a gunbattle late on April 19, or his 19-year-old brother Dzhokhar, who was apprehended after a police dragnet and is hospitalized in serious condition.
According to the ministry officials, a Kazakh consul is in permanent contact with the U.S. investigators and the two detained Kazakhs nationals.
The twin bombings in Boston killed three people and wounded more than 180 on April 15.
The two Chechen brothers' family is originally from Kyrgyzstan's northern region bordering Kazakhstan.
