German Boxer Defeats 'Aleksandr the Great' Ustinov

Germany's Manuel Charr has defeated Aleksandr Ustinov of Russia by a unanimous decision to capture the vacant WBA heavyweight boxing title.

Charr won on November 25 on the judges' cards by scores of 114-111, 116-111, and 115-112 in Oberhausen, Germany.

The victory made Lebanese-born Charr the first German heavyweight champion since Max Schmeling in the 1930s. He moved to Germany in 1989 as a refugee.

The 33-year-old Charr statistic are now 31-4 with 17 knockouts, while the 40-year-old Ustinov has a record of 34-2 with 25 knockouts.

Ustinov, known as "Aleksandr the Great," previously lost to Bulgarian Kubrat Pulev in 2012.
