The international envoy to Syria has said that the situation in the country remains "worrying" after meeting President Bashar Al-Assad.
The UN and Arab-League envoy Lakhdar Brahimi talked to Assad on December 24.
Brahimi did not disclose the details of their discussions but said that the situation in the country "is still worrying."
He hoped that "all the parties will go toward the solution that the Syrian people are hoping for and look forward to."
Violence has greatly escalated since Brahimi was appointed in September.
He has so far failed to broker an end to the 21-month old conflict because the government and the rebels refuse to talk to each other.
Activists say some 40,000 Syrians have been killed since the uprising began in March 2011.
