Scores Dead In Brazil Nightclub Fire

Police say at least 232 people were killed and 200 injured in a fire on January 27 at a crowded nightclub in southern Brazil.

A police spokesman said the death toll of the fire in the city of Santa Maria "may rise."

Authorities said the fire broke out at the Kiss club while a band was performing.

Reports say some 500 people were in the club.

Local media reports say the fire was started by pyrotechnics on the stage.

Santa Maria is located near the borders with Argentina and Uruguay and is a major university city with a population of around 250,000.
