A British servicewoman has given birth to a baby boy in Afghanistan.
The soldier, a Fijian national serving as a gunner with the Royal Artillery, gave birth on September 18 at Camp Bastion in Helmand Province.
The British Defense Ministry said the mother and baby were both in "stable condition."
The ministry said it was "unaware" she was pregnant, and that "it is not military policy" to allow pregnant servicewomen to deploy on operations.
The woman arrived in Afghanistan in March, meaning she was pregnant before deploying.
British media reports said the woman only learned she was about to give birth after complaining of stomach pains.
It is thought to be the first time a serving member of Britain's military has gone into labor in a combat zone.
