Car Bomb Kills Eight Near Baghdad

At least eight people have been killed in a suspected suicide car bombing at a police checkpoint south of Baghdad.

The blast, which occurred just north of the city of Hilla, also wounded 20 people.

Iraq is suffering a surge in bloodshed this year, ahead of April 30 parliamentary elections.

More than 2,750 people have died in violence across Iraq so far this year, mostly targeting security forces and communities of the country's Shi'ite majority.
