Chechen Leader Replaces Grozny Mayor

Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov

Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov has replaced the mayor of Chechnya's capital, Grozny.

The Chechen leader's press service said late on October 8 that Mayor Muslim Khuchiyev was dismissed for "violations in the distribution of land plots in the capital."

Islam Kadyrov, who is related to Ramzan Kadyrov, was appointed acting mayor.

Prior to his new appointment, the capital’s new acting mayor had been the Chechen Republic's minister of property and land relations and first deputy mayor of Grozny.

The Grozny mayor's replacement comes days after Ramzan Kadyrov carried out leadership reshuffle in several districts of the republic.
