Three Sentenced To Death, One Gets Life In China Train Station Attack

A court in China has sentenced three people to death and one to life in prison for a deadly stabbing attack at a railway station earlier this year.

Assailants armed wih knives ran through a crowded railway station in the southwestern city of Kunming on March 1, killing 31 people and wounding more than 140 others.

The government blamed the attack on separatists from the northwestern province of Xinjiang, the traditional home of China's Muslim Uyghur ethnic minority.

The names of the defendants indicated they were probably Uyghurs.

China state CCTV channel said a court in Kunming handed down the sentences on September 12.

Three defendants had been charged with organizing and leading a terrorist group and murder, while the fourth one was charged with membership in a terrorist group and murder.
