Russia-imposed police in Ukraine's Moscow-annexed Crimea searched the home of Crimean Tatar activist Nazim Memetov and confiscated his mobile phone and laptop on January 23, saying the search was linked to a case involving illegal firearms. Police did not give any further details. Memetov was neither charged nor arrested. Since illegally annexing Crimea in 2014, Russia has imposed pressure on Crimean Tatars, the peninsula's indigenous ethnic group, many of whom openly protested the annexation.
