The Crimean Tatar community's self-government body, the Mejlis, has called on Crimea residents to hold on to their Ukrainian passports. Mejlis member Remzi Ilyasov told RFE/RL's Ukrainian Service on March 20 in Simferopol that Crimean Tatars were being forced to adopt Russian citizenship. He called on all Crimeans, regardless of their ethnicity, to keep their Ukrainian citizenship.
