Six Militants Reported Killed In Daghestan

MAKHACHKALA – Security forces in the Russian North Caucasus republic of Daghestan have reportedly killed six militants in what officials describe as a special operation.

Reports say the operation started in the early morning of June 8 in the town of Yuzhno-Sukhokumsk when security forces killed one militant and trapped others in a residential building.

Officials said the militants refused to surrender and fired on security forces.

They said security forces returned fire, killing five more militants.

No casualties were reported among the security forces.

Violence between suspected Islamic militants and security forces in Russia's North Caucasus, which includes Daghestan, Chechnya, and Ingushetia, causes hundreds of casualties each year.
