Scores Die In Attack On Yemen Protest Camp

Yemeni doctors say at least 40 people were killed when government forces and snipers attacked an opposition protest camp in the capital, Sanaa, on September 24.

The camp on Change Square has been the epicenter of Yemen's uprising and daily sit-ins to demand President Ali Abdullah Saleh's ouster.

Saleh said on his return to Yemen on September 23 -- after more than three months of of medical treatment in Saudi Arabia -- that he wanted to see a truce to end days of heavy fighting in the capital.

But opponents say they feared more bloodshed due to his return and the United States has demanded he relinquish power.
