Lawyers for former IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn have asked a judge in New York City to dismiss the civil lawsuit filed by a hotel maid who accuses Strauss-Kahn of sexual assault.
In a motion filed on September 26, Strauss-Kahn's lawyers say that under international law, Strauss-Kahn continues to possess diplomatic immunity from civil lawsuits, even though he resigned as managing director of the International Monetary Fund in May after he was arrested by New York police for criminal investigation of the sexual assault claim.
Strauss-Kahn returned to France earlier this month after New York prosecutors dropped the criminal case against him, citing questions about the credibility of 32-year-old Guinean-born maid Nafissatou Diallo.
Lawyers for Diallo filed the civil suit against Strauss-Kahn, seeking compensation for the alleged attack, in August.
Strauss-Kahn is also facing a separate investigation in France from a writer who accuses Strauss-Kahn of trying to rape her during a 2003 interview.
