Yemen Peace Talks End With No Breakthrough

Talks on ending the conflict in Yemen have ended with no agreement.

Rival factions agreed to meet again on January 14 after four days of talks in Switzerland.

Yemen has been plagued by nine months of fighting between pro-government fighters and Shi'ite rebels that has killed nearly 6,000 people.

A military alliance of mostly Gulf Arab countries led by Saudi Arabia began bombing Yemen's Huthi movement, an ally of Iran, in March to try to restore the government of President Abd-Rabbu Mansur Hadi.

It remains unclear whether the two sides have agreed to renew a troubled cease-fire which coincided with the start of the UN-backed talks.

Though Saudi Arabia and the Huthis have accused each other of many violations of the cease-fire, it did reduce the fighting enough to allow small amounts of badly-needed aid to be delivered to the war zones.
