Dozens Of Casualties In Baghdad Blasts

Baghdad has been hit with a series of car bomb explosions, leaving dozens of dead and injured.

As many as six blasts are reported to have occurred April 9 in neighborhoods mainly populated by members of Iraq’s majority Shi’ite community.

The Associated Press quoted police as saying at least 13 people had died.

The blasts came as Iraqis were marking the 11th anniversary of the collapse of Saddam Hussein’s regime in the 2003 U.S.-led invasion.

Iraq has seen a surge of violence in the past year, amid concerns about a revival of sectarian conflict and an offensive by Sunni militants in the western province of Anbar.

Iraq is due to hold parliamentary elections on April 30.
